c standards for linux


just wondering if someone had a link to certain standards or conventions used while programming in c on the linux platform. things like where to store properties files (things to be loaded into the application, but not quite configuration files like those found in /etc)/directory structure and so forth.

However this is not C but *NIX specific (maybe POSIX, not sure).
