depends really , if its a regular app c++ if i want to delve into lower level things c , all languages have somewhat of a purpose. For instance try telling a kernel person that they should be developing in c++ not pure c .

I've heard Windows is much better than Linux.

Seriously, though. Do you have anything to back that up with? A link or something. I don't know much about C# and I wouldn't try it in my spare time until the development kits are free (and possibly open source).

Actually, I believe you can download the .Net framework from Microsoft, which includes the C# compiler. You don't get their IDE (VStudio) with that, but since you are probably familiar with compiling code under Linux, you probably don't really need it..

So far as C# being better than C++... I still prefer C++. C# does have certain things it is good for, though. For instance if I wanted to create a SOAP call interface, I would most likely do so with C#.

C# is really just Java with some different keywords and a few additional things. It does seem to run a whole lot faster than Java, though.

Between C and C++... I learned C first many, many years ago before moving on to C++. I wouldn't say it's necessary to learn C first, but might make things a bit easier. I still tend to prefer working with C++ for most things, though.
