Hey, I just installed suse 9.1 pro and I want to be able to write and compile c++ programs. Im wondering if the c++ libraries come installed in the default suse installation or if i have to get them from somewhere. Im using emacs to write my source code and i intend to use g++ to compile programs.
When i install g++ will that install the libraries?
Oh... one last thing, whats the difference between gcc and g++ or are they the same thing?
Maybe SuSE didn't include development tools into the standard-selection package, but they are included in the Pro edition, so it's not problem to install them via yast.
I am not a programer, but I think gcc is the C compiler and g++ the C++ compiler, so they are not the same thing.
1. gcc (Gnu C) and g++ (Gnu C++) are two separate things
2. Neither compiler is installed by default on SusE Pro 9.1: you must go into Yast, Install/Remove Software and manually install them from the SuSE media.
3. Even though the compilers aren't installed by default, every SuSE system should have the needed system libraries to run any any "vanilla" C and/or C++ executable.
So even though the default installation doesn't let you build any new programs (until you install the compilers), it *does* let you run most everything that's already been built for you.
