Personally, I prefer Sun, because I know any Java code I try to run will work (unless it's wrongly written, of course). I think for most people the choice of Blackdown or Kaffe is based on their feelings about using only "Free Software", which Sun's Java is not. That having been said, if you share those feelings, Blackdown certainly seems to be very capable, so why not go with it?

I prefer blackdown. They are (where??) the only ones who offer j3d support for linux.

I use Sun right now, but I'm going to install Oracle soon and I'm not sure what will hapen because I think it has Java issues. It tries to install 1.3 for example. I think that Oracle shouldn't try to install Java on my computer, but apparently it does. I think that I would like to use Suns Java2 1.4.1, but Oracle might screw everything up.

I would use Sun.
Oracle will install what it likes on your machine, it needs 1.3 in order to run itself and its applications. That doesn't mean that you must use Java 1.3 though.
There is absolutly no problem (that I've found, anyway) with Sun and Oracle working together (in fact I think you'll find the companies would love to see more of it!)

Blackdown is better on Linux.

Blackdown java and Sun java is the same source.
Blackdown licenced Java source from Sun and port it to Linux since version 1.0 and is working very closely with Sun. They are working together now.
On Linux platform, you should use blackdown because it is more integrated with Linux.
Here is the article about blackdown and sun java from the sun website. This will clear all the assumption that Sun's VM (on Linux) might be better because Sun is the creator of Java.
