Beginning Perl: file problem

How do I create a Perl script?

I tried using Open Office but the output is in binary form?

I really don't care what editor I have to use. I just want to creat a perl script.

Hi, welcome to LQ!

You could use OO, just save as ASCII Text.

But I would recommend vi or emacs, or Kate if learning is not your thing.

Cheers,
Tink

Just a thought, as you are starting out I'd recommend vim over vi. vim => Vi Improved eg syntax highlighting etc etc .
It's what I use in my job (Perl/Linux bash/MySql) programming.

I really like kate...

I guess I would fall under the "Don't want to learn" category, but I like the hand holding it offers to me as a newbie programmer...
Tools>highlighting>scripts> Perl
There is a terminal built into it so you can play cause and effect with your scripts and do quick debugging if needed.

that's my 2 cents
