Question programmin in Linux.

Hello friends,
I am a newbie in the world of programming..I recently installed RH linux, I just wanted to know ,if anyone at all can tell me how do u compile and link a c program ??? and how would you know the purpose of header files / library files available in linux 7.3??..I will try later versions of linux soon..but I think I should be comfortable with this one first..

First make sure you have gcc* packages installed. GCC is the compiler. When you have it, you compile using
gcc -o prog example.c
It will compile 'example.c' and create 'prog' executable.

You don't need most of the headers, they can be used when you develop an application using the program/library. To find out what is a library used for, you usually need to find the library home site and read/download documentation. The codumentation may also be installed somewhere in /usr/share/doc.

if you have gcc and g++ working then you have standar libs for c/c++ if you are going to use non standar libs like mysql lets say refer to their docs they explain prety well
