BASH script for starting printer

I have a friend who has a problem with their printer constantly going into the "Stopped" state for no apparent reason (they are running Linpsire Linux). Every time they want to use the printer, they need to go to the KDE Control Center and select Peripherals->Printers->Printer->Start/Stop->Start Printer which is really annoying. Is there any way I can setup a desktop icon (hooked to a bash command) for them which will reset or "Start" the printer? It's a cheap hack fix, I know... but I can't figure out why it is constantly reverting to "Stopped" state so this is my solution until I can find them a better one. (and no, dumping Linspire is not an option at this point)

Did you look at the logs to see why it's stopping? You could write a bash (or whatever shell you desire) script to restart cups daemon. I believe that will work for you.
