bash - how to open a new shell tab

Could anyone tell me what is the command to open a new shell tab in Konsole? I know this can be done by clicking New Shell in Session menu, but I'd like to do it by typing a command in the shell.

Thanks

Have you tried <Control><Alt><N> (that's the control, alt and n keys)?

Yes, I know about that, but I would like to implement this in a script...
I'd like to open a shell tab, do something in it, then open another, do something in it... Is this possible?

I found this thread which may help or may not help... http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=28128
