Apache is not recogonising the mime type

Hi All
I am currently facing a crisis when uploading a file via HTTP using a server side script(PHP) .The apache is failing to recogonise the mime type for any of the file extension. The /etc/mime.types file is configured perfectly but still this problem occurs. One more small clarification what has
mime-magic and mime-magic.dat go to do with this mime type recoginition.

Regards
Saravanan
