android avd

I get this error when starting the AVD Nexus with 1024 ram. i lower it to 512, and it works fine. I am getting this error:

Starting emulator for AVD 'Nexus'
Failed to allocate memory: 8
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Is there any other way to fix this so that I can run more ram?

Your computer doesn't have enough ram or the heap settings for the jvm aren't set correctly, see if you can modify the avd exe to launch with more ram usually -xmx 1024 or something

I try this, but then I get that error. I am using the gui, and I increased the ram.

Try running with only 768 if you can select that option, also notice that even though it seems like increasing the ram in the avd might make it run faster this usually isn't the case. The emulated android OS is quite slim and won't even take advantage of the added memory, the only time it might be useful is if the application you are debugging has those memory requirements I.e you are running into java.lang.OutOfMemory Exceptions
