Administrator Bash Scripts

Hi There,

I'm hoping someone can help me here.
I'm trying to find some good linux admin scripts for various tasks including:

adding users, changing passwords, adding entries to .conf files, restarting services etc etc.

Namely, I've been trying to write a script that will automatically add a user, change their password to something random, create a couple directories in the home dir with relevant permissions, add text to vhost.conf and restart apache.

Not asking much, I know. Does anyone have any idea where i might fund such a thing I can tweak to my own needs or know anywhere I can find help etc?

I've been reading my linux bible and trying things out.. but I can't seem to get everything tying together and as this would have to run as root.. I don't want to mess around too much
