*** glibc detected *** malloc(): memory corruption

I get this error after running my application. What does it mean and what should I be looking for in my code?

#1, Can you post a bit more detail?
#2, Did you use some search engine to figure out to solve your problem?

i am writing an application on DirectFB which creates a tree. When I allocate memory for the leaf nodes, i get a glibc error ad my program aborts..

I tried using stracce but strace dint terminate and give any result which was of help.
