you don't remember where you stored your script?
Not sure how we can help there.
Code:
which pdftotext
find / -name pdftotext 2>/dev/null

pdftotext location

I stored the script that invokes pdftotext in usr/local/bin.
Then I moved it to download folder temporarily,
where I assume it won't create any trouble.

I never moved pdftotext.

I have tried suggested code,
Code:
which pdftotext
find / -name pdftotext 2>/dev/null
obtaining the result
Code:
/usr/local/Caskroom/pdftotext
where I have checked, & it's there
(no other files in that directory).

Thanks for continued assistance.

Now maybe restore boot path to check this folder?

well you can execute pdftotext by entering
Code:
/usr/local/Caskroom/pdftotext
at the command prompt.
Or move it back to something in your path.
Make sure it's still executable.

But IIRC that has very little to do with the actual problem here? posts #10, #11?

I should probably try that.

What I did instead was to move the file
from /usr/local/Caskroom to usr/local/bin,
which is in my path.

Then I rebooted, tried it again,
& still command not found !!

Thoughts?

Thanks for hanging with me on this.

Now I'm really confused.

I tried executing pdftotext by specifying full path, as suggested.
Still, Command not found.
So I investigated further, finding pdftotext is where I thought,
but as a directory.

"pdftotext" is a directory containing subdirectory "latest".

"latest" contains
Contact.webloc
Installer.pkg
Read Me.html
Website.webloc

You aren't even using Linux.
You really should've told us from the very beginning.

My mistake .. It wasn't intentional, I assure you.

I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression
that bash is the same command-line system for mac and linux.

Apparently, that's not the case.
I'll make sure to post on a Mac board next time.
Sorry for wasting your time.

? How can it be unintentional ?

Bash is [almost] the same for mac and linux. The difference is the OS itself. bash is just a tool, it does not work without an OS.

In my 2nd post to this thread, I mentioned using MacOS, as the possible source of difficulty running globstar, since MacOS-13 has old bash version.

Code:
"shopt -s globstar" produces,
"-bash: shopt: globstar: invalid shell option name" - cuz MacOS-13 old bash version.

Update attempt failed for inability to edit system file.
So I removed "shopt -s globstar". Changed "**/*.pdf;" to "*.pdf;"
I didn't differentiate bash from Linux. Remember, I'm on this board because I don't know nearly as much as those who generously volunteer their time to help.

Please don't take my oversights personally.

Well that's wrong.
Most of the commands you are using in this thread are not bash commands. They are provided by your operating system.
Nevertheless, my previous advice still stands.

Thanks all for assistance.
