Is the darwin image at free OS zoo ok?
 
Can someone help me with the darwin qemu image at the free OS zoo? The boot hangs at some hfs_mount command, eating my cpu.

Searching for "hfs_mount invalid HFS+ sig" shows the error to originate from hfs_vfsutils. Discussions at the opendarwin.org mailinglist show the booter preferring HFS+ partitions over HFS ones if no "rd=somedisksomepartitionsomeint" is specified on the boot cmdline or in "com.apple.Boot.plist". If nobody with any decent MacOS knowledge replies here and the opendarwin.org mailinglist doesn't hold any clues I'd suggest contacting the submitter of the image.
