IRIX64 ... need to kill processes!

I have six jobs in "sleep" that are using about 6GB on a compute server! I have tried killing them my name , and explicitly by PID ID, as well as killing all of my user processes, but nothing seems to have an effect. Any ideas?

Have you tried kill -9? If the processes are waiting on I/O (state D on Linux, notsure the equivalent on Irix -- it's been years since I touched an Irix box seriously), though, not even kill -9 will finish them off. You may need to reboot.
