xorg finally out
xorg has finally been released to the unstable pool, to upgrade to it do this:
apt-get install xserver-xorg
New users are recomended to wait for the next release which should have xorg already in it.

Cool. (I don't use MEPIS though - just taking this thread off zero replies)

Dumb question, but doesn't Mepix use Xorg like all other Linux distros?

Mepis uses repositories / packages from Debian exclusively..
so this is a Debian thing not a Mepis thing..

so Debian has released X.org.. so it will be available to Mepis users
through the regular Debian repositories..

No Mepis and Debian both use xfree86, but now that Debian has released xorg you can get it, and so it should be in the next release.

in debian, it should be quite easy
probally somthing like apt-get install xfree.org, or somthing similar to that, and the rest would be automatic.
you would then need to probally install a window manager of your choice, unless yove already got one installed.
this is however, a big change. It might be best to let sombody else do it first, or try it on a box that isnt very impotant.... althought usually apt is VERY good at not breaking things
