Was it previously working at all, or has it not worked since you installed linux? Try using the command:
# iwconfig
and post the output of that (hoping there is some) because that will help the people (not me), who really know what they are doing, help you.
Check out other posts on ndiswrapper if it has never worked. I'm on a dell inspiron as well, and it took me a good while to get my wireless working, but its been great since then (until now, but thats a different story). Make sure to check if ndiswrapper supports your wirless card too -- assuming that you have to use it at all.
