Wireless USB Adapter on v2003.10.02
Hello: Does anyone know of an adapter that will work "out of the box" on this version of Mepis? I have an old AMD350/256 white box with an internal four port USB 2.0 hub that would support it. Router is an 802.11b/g. Thanks so much. james91911

Please clarify -- what is "this version of Mepis" you refer to? Or are you asking for a ver. of MEPIS that might work on this hardware?
What are you trying to build?

Thank you for your reply. The Mepis CD-ROM says 2003.10.02, and that would be the reference or version for this distribution during that time. I have reviewed the various hardware compatability lists and found that most brands with rt2500/rt2570 or zd1211 chips work with Linux, but when you try to nail down a specific USB adapter for use with a specific distribution, it gets fuzzy. I guess my question is: What make/Model/Chipset works with the Mepis distribution issued on 2003.10.02? Thanks again for the assist, and have a great day! james91911.

I still don't understand your problem. Would you prefer I post a list of possibly harsh criticisms, or unsubscribe from this thread & let someone else try to help you?

Thanks very much. Didn't mean to "shake the tree". I solved the problem by going with Ubuntu's Dapper using the 3Com 3CRUSB10075 with a zd1211 chipset. Worked "out of the box" using the Ubuntu Network Administrator Tool. Have a nice day. james91911

One thing you might do is view your posts in several browsers, your profile, specifically the "Distribution:" is taking over half my screen width in Konqueror 3.2.2, Opera 9.01, & Firefox 1.0.6. (I know, I know, Konqueror 3.2.2 is old, but I am stuck w/ it for a while longer. Firefox 1.0.6 is positively ancient, & Opera 9.01 is not quite the latest & greatest.)
Surely if all 3 have the same problem, something is wrong w/ the formatting of your "Distribution:" entry.
In fact, looking at it closely there are no spaces in it. If you would change it from
Code:
Caldera2.4;MDK6.5-8x&10.0;Linspire3,4x&5;Knoppix3x.Mepis3x.Ubuntu 5x, Puppy 1x
to
Code:
Caldera2.4; MDK6.5-8x&10.0; Linspire3,4x&5; \
Knoppix3x. Mepis3x. Ubuntu 5x, Puppy 1x
or better yet to
Code:
Caldera 2.4; MDK 6.5-8x & 10.0; Linspire 3, 4x, & 5; \
Knoppix 3x; Mepis 3x; Ubuntu 5x; Puppy 1x
I bet the problem would be solved. Needless to say, squinting at your Q in narrow column didn't put me in a very helpful frame of mind.

Profile adjustment
Thanks for the "heads up" on the profile problem. Funny, I had never noticed that and I am glad you did. When you ask for help, the last thing you need is someone on the other end not in their comfort zone . Looks like you will have a better look with any browser now. Have a really nice day, and thanks again . james91911.

You're welcome. It's definitely fixed.
Ironically, my "Code" tagged suggestion blocks then caused a horizontal scrolling problem in Konq., I have put escaped ('\') line breaks in them.
