Wifi is secured by a password (WEP I think) at my friend's house. We don't bother with security on ours at home because we're waaaaay out "in the sticks" and have no concern about neighbors "stealing" our wifi.

But when I go to my friend's house, I can't use her wireless because there doesn't seem to be any screen for entering the password (and I've clicked right and left all over the network icons and menus - maybe just not seeing it?). Her network is detected, but I can't connect.

I've heard that wicd is "friendlier." Is there a way to find the screen to enter the password in the standard Mepis 8.0.12 network manager or should I try wicd?

In the Network Assistant, there should be a wireless tab where you can select the encryption method.
