why doesn't my mixer display a master channel?


In a thread I posted about the crakcling and scratching produced by my audio, Matthewg42 suggested:

The I noticed that my mixer (KMix) doesn't display a Master channel for me to adjust. Mine looks like this--

--which is not much what the KDE manual says it should look like. Is there anything I can do to install a master channel in it?

If you right click on the LS icon on the task bar what happens ?
In my case I can choice the channel with represent the master volume
