Used mepis for quite some time, I like mepis because it worked on my three computers just fine - All three computers had different hardware. I could write CDs/DVDs, Play music videos , compile a few programs, Whereas few of the other distros I tried didnt do that well - typically - Fedora and Mandrake. Fedora didnt give me choice of Reiserfs and couple of other problems, Mandrake when installed with some of the options would not allow me login as root in xWindows/gui. Knoppix's pnp capablities were real cool. Have yet to try suse 9.3 .

Thumbs up Mepis Rocks!

I have been using Mepis since Nov. '04. It was the first distro to stay in my computer more than three weeks. Now I boot to Mepis 90% of the time (only play a few games and print in XP--no drivers for my Lexmark).

Thanks for starting this forum!

I settled on MEPIS this December after trying several distros. (I even use the cd to play with partioins on windows computers i work on).

the only problem I have had with it is the sound on my computer not being recognized at first. That was easily fixed. I have completety deleted the winxp partition on the computer!

no problems with DVD/CD burning. I have DVD Shrink running under wine and it works great.

even lm_sensors works great!

Now I just have to talk to girlfriend into giving up winders. Maybe when Yahoo! Messenger's linux version can do what the win32 version can... (I use gaim)

It's a eMachines W3050

Simply Mepis won my heart when it would access my Windows 2000 drive and partitions. I was able to backup my document files before losing them to a reformat.

My other two choices were Linspire and Ubuntu. Neither would see my other partitions or drive. Linspire is too restrictive for me and would have lost out anyway. I think it's good for people who like that type of setup, but it's not for me.

Ubuntu wasn't bad but you have to know when to press "Enter" during installation as it doesn't give you a clue. I only made it through because, after almost 16 years at Keypress U., I'm not afraid to press keys.
