Want to install nvidia driver for Riva TNT2
In Mepis 7.0, i'm using the "nv" driver on a
newly installed an nvidia Riva TNT2 card.
I'd like to switch to the nvidia driver so that I can do openGL stuff.
When run Synaptic to install the nvidia legacy driver for 71xx (the description says it supports Riva TNT2), it wants to uninstall the 96xx module.
during the install process, I get this error:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/nvidia-kernel-legacy-71xx-2.6.22-1-mepis-smp_1.0.7185-4mepis1+3_i386.deb: trying to overwrite `/lib/modules/2.6.22-1-mepis-smp/nvidia/nvidia.ko', which is also in package nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-2.6.22-1-mepis-smp
... and gums up synaptic (and apt). I have to unmark the 71xx package to get Synaptic and apt to work again.
Question 1: Is nvidia legacy for 71xx the best driver for my Riva TNT2?
Question 2: How do I install the driver? (How to I get past the error above)?
I've tried (re)installing and uninstalling the 96xx package but still get the same error when installing the 71xx package.
Thanks in advance,
