unable to change tty /dev/tty1 Read-only filesystem

i installed simply mepis-3.3.1-1.iso downloaded file and cd
it gives the above message on boot up after install reboot
someone give me an idea how to repair this

did you verify the md5sum before burning? did you burn at a slow speed on good quality media?

i did not check md5sum . idont know how to check it .i installed it in winndows xp.i dont know how to operate the software.
moreover the livecd part worked fine in all respects so i tried to install it. i tried to boot in level1 and found that it says the partition is mounted read-only mode and returns nothing more to do and stops there.and says the image in ramdrive missing.hows that looking for ramdrive image. means that kernel is not installed no?
i dont know what to do.
a redownload is ruled out as it will take another 28 hrs to do that.with my 128kbps connection.
i can try and buy a cd from linux vendor.
no other alternative?

Instead of installing it from XP, install it from boot up. Just reboot your system with the mepis CD in the drive. I think that will fix the problem. If your system is not set up to boot from a cd then you will have to change that in your bios. To do that hit delete when the computer is booting up, that should get you to your BIOS setup. Then just hunt waround for something like First boot Device or similar.

I think what is happening is, that because you are in windows, the partion/drive your trying to install to is in a Mounted state, which would prevent Mepis from writing to it.

i bought a new cd from local vendor and now it installs fine.
before that i booted level 1 it said mounting partition read only
and nothing more to do.
from the new cd it installed nicely and works fine.
to upgrade it needs to download 280 mb data.
so for now i will stick to kde 3.3 only.
nice screen fonts and legible windows.
