The Debian Repositories

Is Mepis fully ompatible with the debian pool and will programs install from there and update from there without a problem?

Thanks

gnukish 07-23-2005 05:19 AM

I think so ... but some minor hassles may be faced for dependencies which aren't present.

mos 07-23-2005 08:53 PM

the debian repos are fully compatable, nothing is compiled by the mepis team which is not in the debian pool, well except the kernel.

Which means of course, use the Deb repositories freely, except for anything that changes the kernal. IE, package updates or new apps.

What is going on with those repositories? They seem to be changing on me or something! I have the stock Mepis repos turned on:

ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing
ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable
ftp.nerim.net/bebian-marillat/ unstable
apt.mepis.org/3.3/ unstable

but i get all kinds of errors, like Public Key Not Available, and the files/updates fail to download (like 40+ of the 60 updates all fail in synaptic), and occasionally I get Cannot Update! Fix your Packages! or something.

what is going on? this is a pretty new install...

remove the .us from all the debian repos.
the marillat repo works, you need to import the gpg key for it,
see here for a howto
the mepis apt repo doesnt yet have a gpg key, and it will have some warnings

lefty.crupps 07-30-2005 12:17 PM

i have apt 0.6.38 I followed that link's directions and it said

root@4[laptop]# gpg --armor --export 1F41B907 | apt-key add -
gpg: directory `/root/.gnupg' created
gpg: new configuration file `/root/.gnupg/gpg.conf' created
gpg: WARNING: options in `/root/.gnupg/gpg.conf' are not yet active during thisrun
gpg: keyring `/root/.gnupg/secring.gpg' created
gpg: keyring `/root/.gnupg/pubring.gpg' created
gpg: WARNING: nothing exported
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.

what does that mean? is it bad?

thanks mos, you def ;)

lefty.crupps 07-30-2005 12:31 PM

ok well i closed synaptic and then opened it. errors seem to have gone away.

now my update says that there are bugs in four progs that are being updated:
gksu xlibs iptables and another one...

do i continue? or is this really not a good thing?
