TaFusion SimplyMEPIS vs. SimplyMEPIS

Can anyone tell me the difference, if any, between SimplyMEPIS and TaFusion SimplyMEPIS? If I bought one of these TaFusion computers, I'd rather that its MEPIS not be altered very much, because it's pretty good as it is.

Hey, UnSpawn...that double posting was an error, caused by my connection faltering so that I thought nothing had happened the first time I tried to post. And they're both in this forum, not two different forums, as you implied. If I wanted to disregard the regulations, I'd do something less obvious than double-posting. And if moderators allowed members to delete their own posts, I could have corrected it myself.

Should be little, if any, difference

Warren Woodford is simply trying to build a network where he gets at least some revenue for his work. He worked with Robin (Roblimo) Miller to get SimplyMEPIS distributed with a book, and that helped exposure. Getting the software preinstalled on inexpensive hardware is another way. Hoping to get lucky when you are a one or two man shop is a challenge.

Don't expect taFusion to be much different at all, except that you may have to apply software changes to either version if you install them today.

TaFusion no longer offers any version of Simply MEPIS. The only place to get MEPIS is from http://www.mepis.org/ or from one of the cheap Linux disk sources.

Then what does Tafusion offer?

TaFusion now offers something called Pioneer in several versions but none of them has anything to do with MEPIS. The relationship between MEPIS and TaFusion was terminated about a month or so ago, maybe a little longer.

And what is Pioneer? A new distro, or a commercial variant of one?

According to Distrowatch, it's based on Kubuntu.

mepis server ?

There is a server version of Mepis "SoHoServer 3.3.2" presented under "Previous Versions" on mepis.com
Will there be a new version of a Simple Server based on Mepis 6.0.1 or 6.0.4 ?
Thanks

SoHoServer 3.3.2 can be found at http://www.mepis.org/node/10219

Has anyone tried Pioneer, is it any good? What's it got over Kubuntu?

Frank_v7 02-25-2007 04:14 PM

Pioneer vs. Kubuntu

As to the Pioneer vs. Kubuntu question I can only answer get MEPIS 6.5 beta 6. It's better than either one. And when 6.5 final comes out you will be able to upgrade with Synaptic.

newbiesforever 02-25-2007 06:26 PM

Yes, it's difficult to find a distro easier to handle than MEPIS.

Actually you can get a good copy with a good md5sum fromlinuxtracker a s torrent file. Ues ktorrent or azureus, it doesn't matter which. Use firefox to open the torrent and it will get ktorrent going for you.
The reason that I said linuxtracker and not the usual mirrors is that the mirrors have had some trouble giving a copy of MEPIS that has a good md5sum. If you use the mirrors be sure to check the md5sum. You might get a good one. :)
