Question Synaptic wants to remove many things to install Grip

I am trying to install Grip in MEPIS, because none of MEPIS's media players seem to be able to rip music tracks. I went to Synaptic and found it in a search, but to mark it for installation, Synaptic says a large number of other programs or files must be removed, while many others must be installed. It lists KAquarium, Digikam, Guarddog, Kaddressbook, and KCalc as needing removal, among others. Why would installing Grip require the removal of every media player I have? And what does Guarddog even have to do with Grip??

wierd.

maybe some libs are outdated and will break if you continue.
try:
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install grip
grip liists it's dependences as:
curl [required]
libcurl [required]
libgnome [required]
cdparanoia [recommended]
id3lib [recommended]
LAME [recommended]

so maybe you have an outdated libgnome...
no idea what all the KDE apps would have to do with it (maybe libcurl)??
