I got a job recently after a long period of unemployment, and when I made a list of things to buy (or spend on) that I didn't do before for lack of money, I thought of donating money to MEPIS. I'm now in the process of changing distros, but I think I should still be a good citizen and pay for the nearly four years of good use I got from MEPIS. What is the suggested donation? I didn't see one posted at mepis.org.

The fact of the matter is that the decision is totally up to you. You have to make a choice based on what you are comfortable with as an individual. This may vary from $5 to $1,000 or even greater depending upon your budget and your actual feelings toward the Linux community. Anyone can say give x amount but there is no real answer because everyone's contribution will be different depending on their situation. Even if it is a small contribution it's the thought that counts and you always can contribute again in the future. . .
