Sound Cuts Out

my sound starts off fine with the mepis start up jingle.

then it abruptly stops before the jingle ends - someone mentioned it may be a process interfering with the sound. after this interrupt, sound doesn't work in way shape or form - from hard drive to cd player.

this is the output to cat /proc/interrupts

It appears to be that kscd is locking it. There are 2 different routes you can take right here.

1. Kill the offending process.
This can be done by issuing this command in a console
killall -9 kscd

2. Enable software mixing
open up a text editor and put this into it:

Code:
pcm.my_card {
type hw
card 0
# mmap_emulation true
}

pcm.dmixed {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "my_card"
# rate 48000
# period_size 512
}
}

pcm.dsnooped {
type dsnoop
ipc_key 2048
slave {
pcm "my_card"
# rate 48000
# period_size 128
}
}

pcm.asymed {
type asym
playback.pcm "dmixed"
capture.pcm "dsnooped"
}

pcm.pasymed {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed"
}

pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed"
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed"
}
save this as the file .asoundrc and software mixing will automaticly be enabled, and sound will work in several apps at once.

does .asoundrc already exist? if so, i assume it stays in its current path (do i delete all the contents and replace with your code or do i append you code?). if it doesn't exist, what directory should i put it in?

thanks for the help.

.asoundrc does not exist, it needs to be in your home folder.
