Actually, since sometime in late 2006 they're not based on Mepis at all anymore. It's a reworking of Ubuntu, as far as I can tell without actually getting it and messing around with an install.

They don't even have a root account --just the sudo voodoo like Ubuntu. And the package mgr is "Adept" -- the new Ubuntu/Kubuntu one. It does seem to be a KDE desktop, so maybe it's closer to Kubuntu than to anything else.

I think the only thing that might make it desirable for businesses is the tech support angle. I don't see anything about it that is an advantage for an average user.

Smile TA and MEPIS

Hi Silverbear. I think that using pioneer would be a step down from MEPIS. Like most distros are. But it could be good for businesses that need tech support for sure.
