Saving volume settings with session.

First I'd like to thank the Mepis team for their excellent work on the distro. I've tried many distributions and IMHO, this is the best for anyone who is new to Linux. It's also really nice for those who have a lot of experience with it.
My question is about saving the sound settings, like the volume so that it remains the same even after a reboot. Right now, everytime I boot my machine, the sound is really loud. I often work at night and I'm worried about waking up the neighbours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
CD2000

If you're using ALSA, as root adjust the volume controls with alsamixer then save the settings with
alsactl store

Saving Volume settings in Mepis

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't use alsa but I will try it. The reason I asked this question is that I also use Mandriva and it automatically saves my volume settings so that whenever I reboot, they remain the same. I really like this feature and thought there would be something similar in SimplyMepis, which is Debian based.
Thanks :)

open up kmix and goto configure kmix. Then, check the box that says "Restore volumes on login."

MEPIS does use alsa and andrew's advice would also work.

it should save the setting, there as /etc/init.d/aumix script that does that. If that's not activated at shutdown maybe you need to add it manually to the runlevel 6 (apt-get install ksysv if you want to have a GUI for editing runlevels)
