saving settings from a LiveCD

Is there any way to save a cd distribution's settings to the hard drive, so everything will not be erased the next time you run it? Without installing the distribution on the HD, I mean.

Maybe yes, maybe no. It depends on which LiveCD you use. Obviously you cannot write to the CD, but some LiveCD's will allow you to specify a /home directory on your harddrive at boot up.

To be specific, I am using Knoppix. (Tried MEPIS, but didn't like it.)

You should search the Knoppix website for the answer.
(Sorry dude, I honestly would search for you, but I'm sooo late for bed. Must sleep.)
