he wants a custom version that he can install on a machine already loaded with the software that he wants.

In the line of darrelljon using Synaptic to create a MiniMep... would it be feasible to remove all unwanted apps and dependencies using Synaptic, and then burn the remaining apps as a "DjMiniMep" image?

Does anyone know if Synaptic would remove a component on which Synaptic depends, without a warning? I guess if that happens, hope that apt-get still functions, or try again from the beginning.

I found this article recently and Fedora's Revisor and Suse's Kiwi look appealing.
