Remaster for me please?
 

Could anyone remaster MEPISLite with a few more apps for me? I'm finding it too complicated to do myself.

My guess is that it will be easier to find people that will help you figure out how to do it yourself.
What steps have you tried and where did you get stuck?
What instructions did you use?
Googled?

darrelljon, what you're asking for is waaay beyond the norm, even for LQ; &, except for politeness, can get you flamed.

The least rude answer I can come up w/ is: "Where do you live & how much are you willing to pay?"

Yes, I never responded to this before because you have to realize something. darrelljon, you have to realize there aren't a whole lot of people that sit around waiting for someone wanting a remaster. There are over 400 distros, how many have you looked at? You have not specified what you want. Give us an idea what you need, and we (or at least, I) will look for a distro made like it already. There are a lot of guides for re-mastering a Ubuntu iso if you are willing to try again...

Hi, what I like about MEPISLite is its hardware compatibility, ease of use, multiuser GUI login and lightweight nature (for older hardware). I liked it so much I've given copies to friends (who only have dial-up). However there are some applications I'd prefer, OpenOffice rather than KOffice, KMyMoney, Firefox 2/Opera 9, Kopete rather than GAIM. Maybe even a lightweight window manager like IceWM. I tried tons of other distros and found Xfce too slow and Puppy and DSL lack GUI login screens. I tried the instructions at BabyTux as the ones at the MEPIS Wiki apply to MEPIS versions since 3.3. However this failed at "mount /dev/cloop/0 /mnt/loop". I understand people have remastered MEPIS and other distros and wondered if anyone could do it for me. Perhap there are services to do this?

Again, what's it worth to you? -- I'm sure I can find someone here in HLUG to work w/ me to do the job.

Do you have a detailed list of additions & subtractions? -- I suspect defining the scope of the contract may take more time than fulfilling it.

In pcLinuxOS and Puppy it looks easy. How hard can this be in MEPIS? My preferences are as detailed above.

You have not answered many (all?) questions put to you.

If you're serious about paying to have this done, please do the following:

1. Say so explicitly.
2. State a cap on what you're willing to spend.
3. Tell me how you will transfer funds.
4. Post a specification -- just what is to be done.
5. State your timetable.
6. State any other expectations you have.

I have several associates who could help complete this in a professional & timely manner, but I'm not going to waste their time discussing it unless I know you are serious.

Now seriously, just look for Synaptic Package Manager on your system and select all the boxes you want. Takes two minutes.

Paying to have it done would defeat the main reason of using Free Software. In any case I wouldn't transfer money to some random guy on a forum.

You are certainly right about the second statement.

Now we are on an interesting side road...the main reason for using **Open Source** SW is not to avoid spending money!! The "free" in the various licenses refers to freedom of use.

More fundamentally, you are asking for someone to do a chore for you--that has nothing to do with the Open-source licensing or with any of the interpretations of "free" SW.

Early on, I asked you some questions which related to why you thought you could not have done this yourself---you never answered.

Nothing is free in life, you would have to pay for the time it takes. You seem to want everything to bow down before your wishes, it won't happen. I can't see some poor soul taking the time for "some random guy on a forum" to remaster something for your holiness.

darrelljon - I think you may have a misconception of LQ. This is a volunteer run site. Every member here (and that includes the owner and all the moderators) help here for free and on their own time. Nobody is guaranteed help. And no one should expect others to do their work for them. If you need someone to remaster a distro for you, do you not think that they deserve something for their time?
