Received message when trying to boot SimplyMepis 3.4

When I tried to boot Mepis3.4 on my NEC Ebook-400, I was greeted with two screens with one message on each of them.
The first reads like this:
" boot CD-ROM Type: Non-Emulation Booting
Loading stage 2 "
Then after a split second came the second one:
" GNU GRUB version 0.95 (639k lower/228228k upper memory

[Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported.
For the first word, TAB lists possible command
completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
completion of a device/filename.]
grub> "

I am pretty sure I correctly burned the disk on a low
speed and it is not corrupted, thus do I stand a chance
of installing th OS? Urgently seeking help!

I think that must be it.I have tried Vector as well and the same situation occured. My laptop worked fine when I was installing Slackware and CentOS, but I never thought it just might be a conflict between GRUB and the BIOS.
Thanks again, mos!

I've got the same problem but Grub has worked before.

I'm new to Linux and have been trying different distro's on my laptop.
Most have used Grub without a problem.
However, I'm getting the same problem as LQer928 with SimplyMepis 3.4.3.

I've just noticed the dates on the previous posts (a year ago), hope that doesn't mean this thread is dead.
