Question About Screen Resolution

Firstly, thank you so much for helping me so far. I have been able so fix everything above and beyond my even wildest aspriations up to this point.
I am currently running my laptop at 1024x768 screen res. Now, i know how to change the resolution, but every time i do change the screen res to its proper 1280x800 the screen gets all glitchy and i cant read anything.
Once again, thanks so much so far

copy paste the xorg.conf here ...

1> check the section "Screen" if it has a value, "DefaultDepth" and a number with it.
2> Next check SubSection "Display" for that number and place the resolution you want natively in the line. Remove other modes later, once you have the things fine.

Also, what video ram is configured in the BIOS ? Check if it matches the amount of memory in the xorg.conf file. Again, Section "Device" value - VideoRam

I just tried what you said above
The default value was i think 16, so i went to that subsection and entered "1280x800"
However, when i ran it, it still didnt work. I then checked with another widescreen resolution and found that that resolution, as well, does not work on my computer. The thing is, it should be able to run the widescreen resolutions
Is there some way to fix this?

Thanks for reading this,
DC

I have a laptop running Mepis 6.0 at 1280x800 (at least I think that's what I set ot for). I'll post my xorg.conf here when I get home.

No need. It turns out all i needed to do was restart my system.
Thanks so much for helping me, everyone! It looks phenomenally better now that the res is back to full settings.

Thanks again,
DC

I have not seen a "VideoRam" quoted in any of my Xorg configure files
Could you please explain further-I have 16Meg Shared memory for graphics

I attach my xorg.conf file in case it helps
