I was wondering if anyone knew a way to get SimplyMepis to install on my HD using a Promise IDE controller. I can't see my HDs from the live CD. Suggestions?
The most likely cause of this sort of problem is a lack of the proper driver for the Promise card. The Promise website may have the driver; if so it will almost certainly be in source (*.tar.gz or *.tgz) form & will have to be compiled for the kernel version you are using (2.6.12, I think).
If you don't find the driver on the Promise website you get to look elsewhere. Google is your friend and so is Knoppix. Any of the live-CD distros are worth trying. Once you find a distro that works with your card you can get the driver's name from it & go back to the web to find the source code.
