Program Reinstall on Mepis Upgrade
i expect to be upgrading mepis once the new version goes stable. i'm having to do lots of configuring to mepis and also updating the programs i want on the system.
since i'm a gnewbie, this is actually good - i learn a lot through repitition.
however, i can see a time when reinstalling and configuring everything every time mepis comes out with a new revision gets old.
what strategies do you use to avoid having to reinstall and reconfigure everything?

from the looks of it, a total reinstall is sometimes preferred...

does this happen often, or is it just because of the unusual printer issue that faced mepis?

If you opt for a full reinstall, preserve /home and you will retain your original settings for previously installed apps (eg Firefox, Thunderbird, etc). I have reinstalled Meips a few times now as new versions come out, and sometimes certain apps too if they weren't included with the distro - for example, Evolution. I preserved /home and I was gobsmacked to discover when I reinstalled Evolution that my original mailboxes, address-book, etc were all there.
