Printer Wizard Will Not Accept User Password During Setup

Hello To All: I have a perfect install of Mepis 2003.10.02 on an old AMD 350 K-6-2 computer. The setup as "Root" with the printer wizard works and when it asks for the "Root Password" during the test printer sequence, it accepts the password and prints the page. I then enter the name of user with permissions and finish. Going in as the user, using the printer wizard, I can get as far as the "Test Printer" sequence. It then asks for the password for the user (which it correctly identifies) and then just keeps asking even after the user password has been entered. The Mepis installation instructions addresses the setup for a printer as "Root" but does not mention this user problem. Having reviewed other threads that address printers and passwords, I don't see anyone else with this problem. It is, by the way only a problem I encounter in Mepis. Thanks for helping me see the "trees in the forrest" :-). james91911

You need to be root to setup any printers on a Linux machine. Just do it as root and all users will have access to the printer.

Thanks for the reply raddaz. As stated above, I did successfully set the printer as root. My problem is as a regular user I tried to setup the printer on my account. When ask for the user password and after providing same, it would not accept the password, I have not tried to see if the printer is available without setting it up after the setup is complete as root. I'll try that and let you know how it worked. I have been using Linux for many years in different distributions and have never had this problem, so it is obviously something I am doing incorrectly. Thanks so much for the assist. james91911.

Raddaz and all: I was correct. I was trying to setup a printer as a user, which in Linux as we all know, you can't do. All I had to do is just create a document (or e-mail etc.) and click on the printer icon - Wallah, printed just as it should have. I just lost sight of the trees in the forest :-). Thanks again and have a great day. Feeling real dumb - james91911.
