Printer disappeared

Printer is an OfficeJet T45, OS is Mepis Debian 2.6.7 The printer used to work just fine and now when I click on the icon in OpenOffice, a menu flashes but nothing happens. Same way if I try to just print a webpage. Nothing happens. No error message, nothing. I open KJobVIewer and there are my print jobs, queued up and sitting there. Any ideas?

check to see if you have permission to use the printer. if so then make sure you have

CUPS
ghostscript
hpoj or hpijs

Delete your printer and then add it back in. I find you can either modprobe several times or just reboot.

Do you connect via usb or lp?

cheers

Removed printer and added it back. Nothing changed. Its like nothing is being sent to the printer, even though KJobViewer indicates that it is.

how are you connecting your printer lp or usb?

if using usb then you need to install hplip. I have an Officejet G85, and found that the support for my particular printer was not supported well. Also try visiting

http://www.linuxprinting.org

Do the search for the info needed

lp. Whats so strange about it, I think, is that this just "happened". I've been using this printer on my linux box for like at least two years.

Have you recently executed an update? Sometimes a new update has a few unironed bugs in it. With debian thus Mepis (I assume) bugs are fixed swiftly. Try doing an update/upgrade at the command line

#su -

{enter password}

#apt-get --update

or

#apt-get --upgrade

I think this is right ..... been a while. This should fix any temporary bugs. If this is not the problem do an

#lsmod

to see if the modules for your printer are loading. parport and parport_pc and lp should be in the list.

I did the apt-get upgrade and update. Nothing changed. Still no printing. Printer is "Sitting quietly, Doing nothing" and lsmodprobe reveals that parport and parport_pc are loaded.
