Print Scan Copy and MEPIS

Who here uses a PSC (print scan copy) machine with MEPIS and has little or no trouble?

I am doing some basic research to discover which, if any, PSC machines work well with linux in general but MEPIS in particular.

I'd say it's more "in general" thing, because most distributions (that I know) use CUPS and have more or less equal printer drivers available..you can probably just check OpenPrinting website (and maybe some other, similar sites) to see the status of different printer models and/or drivers.

I have a printer-scanner-copier (if it can scan and print, essentially it can copy too..) at home and it works perfectly under my Linux systems, mainly Ubuntu which is used by others than me as well. If you need to know, it's a Hewlett-Packard consumer-priced ink-eating monster, and it does it's job better than I usually expect it to. This far I've seen only two kinds of printer-scanner-copiers, those that work (print, scan and copy) and those that don't (do any of those). I guess there may be models that print but don't want to scan under Linux, but if they have a printing driver that provides better than crap quality, why wouldn't they have a scanner driver as well? At least the big names, like HP and Canon, provide Linux drivers in some way, so there you go..

My personal opinion, based on my personal experience, is that HP devices seem to work 'easier' than Canon devices, but then again most of them work well despite of the manufacturer or model -- as long as you don't get any exotic machines, like those Sharp heavy-duty office multi skill space ships that print, scan, copy, fax, call, answer and drink coffee all in one go :)

Good luck with your research!
