Partition
I have my computer as MEPIS right now but I've decided that I want to run Windows as well... How do I partition my hard drive?

Partition
with 'fdisk' and creating new partitions
If you don't have space left on the hardrive, you have to resize the partition with mepis => can give you some problem.
You can use 'resize2fs' for ext2/3 and 'resize_reiserfs' for resierfs.
The best is maybe to run windows with qemu so you don't need to repartition the HD.
The best of all i to only use linux.
Good luck

In the installation center go click on "Resize partitions with QtParted" (or something to that effect), then just change your partitions.

Excellent advice, mos.
ToofDogger, do you not understand the idea of partitions? Who installed your MEPIS system, & what was on the drive before?

Let's go back to your original Q:

Are you looking for partition layout advice or a partitioning software recommendation? I have lots of either, I assist in uncounted dual boot installs every year. (Uncounted, not uncountable -- I'm lazy & forgetful, not god-like.)

Anything that can make it easy for me to repartition my hard-drive to run with windows, weather it be software or advice it doesn't matter

Did you see if QtParted is in your distro? It can be used to create a new partition. Use with caution.
Does the whole hard drive currently have only linux? Did you leave empty space when u got rid of Windows? What windows version are you using?

>I have Windows XP.
What does it mean?
On one note, you say you only have Linux installed.
This is quite confusing.
Tell us for sure....what exactly do you have on your Hard disk at this point of time!

ToofDogger: It sounds like you need live help. You might want to look up your local LUG and see if anyone can help you get you started.

AND to add to the above post, you also may purchase a Linux for Dummies to get started.
I hope you have a thirst for learning. So why not do it?
Linux requires to learn a few things...and then set off.

Search the Internet for Dual Booting and you should get a lot of Results.
Installing Two Operating systems on a computer is known as Dual Booting.
