Only one place can not get network throughput

I have a problem using a network connection in exactly one hotel, every room.

I use Mepis 6.5 on a Dell Latitude D620 with internal Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit NIC (wired).

This wired NIC has no trouble connecting from any drop all over the world, except at ONE hotel. When connected at that hotel, I can see minimal activity (probably only handshaking), but I can not get "out" (ping and browser show a "bad connection"). The hotel's computers work without problems. Is there something I should look for in their "ipconfig" to configure my computer? Could it be me (my hosts table)? Could they be blocking me?

Thank you.

Ask the administrator at the one hotel that won't work for you. Or try some other packages that are available from synaptic package manager like aircrack, airsnort and a pile of other programs. Just type wireless in to synaptics search bar and take your pick.

The "admin" is the hotel's service contract which only answers questions in exchange for money. As far as the hotel goes, their network is working therefore; "the problem is mine." Also, they do not use wireless at this place, only wired.

I am just wondering if anyone has experienced "handshake packets, but no real traffic" on a network connection, and what I might try the next time I experience it. I just found "Ethereal" in Synaptic. I will use that to view the limited transactions I get. Thank you for suggesting downloading some tools.

Everything seems obvious when other people make suggestions... :)
