Welcome to LQ.

I'm not sure what "Sonic Record now" is but if you are looking for information about burning ISOs check out these LAs:

It seems to be a windows app and there is very little support information on sonic.com.

If you can't find out how to do it then try using Burn4Free:

You could also download and use the trial version of Nero and then follow these instructions

Just a guess here, but you didn't download the ISO from some P2P site did you? You know the problem there right? Programs are renamed and you don't download what you think.
Get your Mepis ISO from the correct place, burn it at a low speed on a cdr and burn it as an image file.

I am wanting to install Mepis on an old Windows 98 system. I am a newbie at Linux, so I chose Mepis, since it's supposed to be so simple. Do I format my hard drive first before booting up the cd for Mepis, or will it take over the whole system if I click on install it. Please someone help me with this one. I have used Windows since computers first came out, and I have no clue what I am doing with Linux yet.

Thank you so very much.

Well that very much depends on if you want to dual boot or not, but that doesn't mean you can't try out the cd yet (its a live cd the whole environment will run from your cd/ram)

tell us if you want to keep linux on or not and someone will help you out

I finally got Mepis installed on the old system. The only problem I am having now is getting on the internet. I am using a 2 wire gateway, connected directly to the system via a usb connection. I went in and manually put in all the dsn info into the eth0 and tried to start it, it won't do anything. It won't start. What am I doing wrong????

Would you mind explaining what it means by 2 wire gateway? Is the usb a hub or router?

If you got the version of Sonic you are using with a Dell PC, it doesnt offer ISO burning, use a trial version of Nero isntead.

It is a 2wire gateway router. Seems like it just doesn't register that it is an internet connection, just reads it as another usb device (unknown).
