NEWBIE: Resolution still stuck at 800x600
Hi all
I am trying MEPIS on my home pc network. I managed to install it succesfully. However, one issue has made me go crazy.
When the system had Win2K on it, I was able to view the screen at 1024*768. But after installing MEPIS monitor resolution doesnot go further than 800*600. I dont have any display cards/drivers. Montior is SAMTRON 56v 15" monitor. I have found the vertical & horizontal refresh rates and entered them. But still no luck.
any ideas?
Thanks
Rajesh

Can you post these sections out of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or /etc/X11/xf86config) - I have no idea which one Mepis uses:
Code:
# **********************************************************************
# Screen sections
# **********************************************************************
And
Code:
# **********************************************************************
# Monitor section
# **********************************************************************
Also post the horizontal and vertical refresh values from your monitor's specs (manual).

You must have a graphics card, you wouldn't be able to see anything if you didnt! Have you upgraded MEPIS from xserver-xfree86 to xserver-xorg yet?

In Mepis, the config file is /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, and you will want to alter it in the area labeled:
Section "Monitor"
Specifically, you will want to change the following lines:
HorizSync
VertRefresh
ModeLine
to reflect the values for your specific monitor. There may also be lines in the
Section "Screen"
area to alter, if there are no provisions there now for the higher resolution you seek.
