Network Problems in 7.0

I have a completely new Install of MEPIS 7.0, and I am trying to connect to the Internet.
I found drivers for my Wireless Device, however I am missing dependencies. So I took my Philips SNR6500 Repeater and set it to 'ethernet client' mode. This allows me to use its (working) wireless connection, while I connect the SNR6500 to my Computer via Ethernet Cable. I assumed this would work instantly -well it does not.
The settings of the SNR6500 are ok, as the same Idea works well with my Windows xp Notebook. I [I]am able[I] to view the configuration Dialog of the SNR6500 from Mepis @ 192.168.1.17. All other connections fail.
Settings are currently:
mnetwork (automatic fails)
IP: 192.168.1.4
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.17 (SNR6500)
Broadcast: 192.168.1.255
Thanks in advance,

You need DNS IP addresses also. How far can you get? Try to ping things, to find out.

ie. ping 192.168.1.17 or ping 75.126.162.205 ( this is the IP address of linuxquestions.org.

If you tried to ping say, ping www.google.co/linux , without DNS, you won't have the IP address, since DNS servers provide this function. You can get DNS addresses for some routers, or from say a windows machine that is working.

Hope this helps.
