Need help updating kernel

I'm using Mepis 6.0

I have both kernel 2.6.15-27-386 & 2.6.15-26-386 on my computer. Everything works fine using 26-386, but when I boot into 27-386 and try to startx this is one of the errors I get:

Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has the version 1.0.8776, but this X module has the version 1.0.8762. Please make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components have the same version.

I have the 8762 nvidia-glx driver loaded and the nvidia-kernel I loaded was 8762 also, so I don't understand where the problem is.

When you change kernels, you have to reinstall the Nvidia drivers.
