You may also want to try Cedega ( www.transgaming.com ) for your Windows games, and Crossover Office ( www.codeweavers.com ) for your Windows work programs.

http://www.linux-gamers.net/
On that site they have like Linux gamers cedega version.. can anybody reccodmend some windows emulators for my needs?

lol, D3 and UT 2004 are two of the few games that run on linux natively. good choice of fav games.
AFAIK, cedega is the only one that will run HL2 though. you can run HL1 w/steam using regular wine though.

I am browsing through Linux-Gamers and they have a bunch of stuff that caught my eye..
Cedega by Linux-gamers (Will this run Half Life 2?)
DirectX 9 patch for Wine
Linux-Gamers Cedega has DirectX patch installed in it.. Cool.. I hope that it runs HL2 and HL2 Deathmatch..!

i think the way lgcedega works is that it downloads cedega CVS instead of regular cedega. the CVS version is opensource, but is more complicated it install and may be buggy.
it SHOULD work however.

Awesome..!
I should have Mepis V3.3.1 installed and windows gone and my network set up.. Next post on this thread should come from MEPIS!
A couple questions before I go through with this! When I boot from the disc.. Can I copy all my documents and stuff from the windows partition to the my documents on mepis and then install mepis over the current windows partition and still have them saved.. Or would I have to install mepis, copy files and then delete windows partition..
I now know that AIM runs on Linux, whoo hoo!
I think that is it.. Anything that I should be warned of before I install?
"The sequel of valve's awardwinning first persion shooter, Half-Life is out and TransGaming announced support unprecedented Linux support for this year's most highly anticipated video game, Valve Software's Half-Life 2.
The problem of HL2 with Cedega is as always the performance of the game with the wrapper. I will try to provide you some tweaking options that you can play the game smoothly with Cedega. I have never played HL2 and I don't own Cedega or HL2, I want a native Linux port!!!"
Does this mean that Half Life 2 runs choppy and stuff on linux machines?!
I am looking at installers for games over at LG.. Will I need a Doom 3 installer to play it on linux? Isn't it native?

no, you have to copy the files over.
lol, aim for linux sucks. use kopete/gaim instead. they have support for every IM protocol and are much much better apps.
when i tried hl2, the graphics were fine but hte sound was choppy. this was a while ago though, and im sure now there are ways to get around these problems.
ya, d3/ut2k4 run natively on linux, but they need an installer. iirc, there is an installer for ut2k4 on the third or fourth cd.

Linux is installed! Whoo hoo! And the whole process went smoothly.. After updating to V3.3.1 my network card was detected..
A couple questions.. The system seems to be running a bit slow.. Such as: When playing TuxRacer ( ), Testing OpenGL screensavers.. Any help?
Could this have anything to deal with the fact that I still have the Windows partition installed? Also, when I installed MEPIS it asked me instal GRUB, Mmmmm..
I hope I did the right thing by installing it..

open a terminal and type in glxgears.
what do you get?
you probably need to install your video card drivers.
Edit: you edited your post on me
no, nothing to do with windows. you are supposed to install grub, it is the bootloader. if you didnt install it, you wouldnt be posting from mepis right now, i assure you.

Yes I did edit my post on you..
Okay, I see fast moving gears that are moving hella fast..
They also keep moving fast while I am playing an mp3 through XMMS (Which BTW I am Loving!).. So far the MEPIS experience is rockin! As long as these very minor problems get fixed I plan to delete the Windows partition for good! One amazing thing I noticed is how quick it transfers files from one folder to another.. Windows used to lag and catch-up and stuff and Mepis had no trouble transferring 2gbs of music videos..
As for the screen-savers thing.. When selecting a GL SS it runs smooth in the little screen to the right but when I click on test its all choppy or doesn't run at all..
What is SMB4K?! Looks similar to an FTP program! Please be an FTP program!
Sorry for all the newbie questions but I am amazed by MEPIS so far.. I really am in shock.. I have it booted from a cd on 3 other computers in the house so my family can get used to it.. lol..
Another proble..
I downloaded Firefox 1.0.4 and extracted it to my usr/bin folder and double clicked the executable file and nothing happened.. Grrr..
