Mepis6.0.4 on a Jumpdrive
 

Wanting to load Mepis6.0.4 in a jump drive. Running from the CD and trying to install the only drive it sees is the first HD (a). Even when I mount the jump drive it is not seen by the install program.

What do I need to do?

Don't use the "Install MEPIS" icon on the desktop. Go into System / System Configuration (Settings) / MEPIS System Assistant / MEPIS USB Key. Make sure your USB jump drive is UNMOUNTED. Then select Format USB Key and you're on your way. You need a minimum of 1GB and the entire key will be used after format for the MEPIS installation so save any files on the USB key before you install MEPIS.

Hey I was looking for this but on Mepis 6 /system Cofig/MEPIS System Assistant is not there . Any idea where I go to do the same with 6.0 ?

It's not available on 6.0. :(

As Frank_v7 stated, it's not available on 6.0, but you can download the LiveCD of 6.0-4, boot from the CD, and create your jump drive from there.

Not trying to take over the thread but does anybody know if it's possible to boot Mepis-6.0.4 from an external cd/dvd drive?

I'm trying to install SimplyMEPIS-32-6.0-4 beta using an external usb cd/dvd drive. When I boot with the cd, it always come up with the Grub prompt.(<grub_ >)

I can't seem to get the install started. Debian 32 & 64 bit version will boot and continue to install without problems.

I would grab the newer 6.5 Rc1 from linuxtracker and it will install I'm sure. Maybe create your partitions to install MEPIS to by using gparted, not qtparted. Gparted is downloaded, burnt to cd like a live linux cd and it runs like a live linux cd.
Gparted can do as many tasks as you need done all in one go. Easy to use too.
A root partition of 5 or 6 Gb is fine. A 1 gig linux/swap partition is good too. Make home as big as you can. Be sure to make the fourth partition an 'extended' partition that uses ALL of your remaining free space. An extended partition can be divided up into as many logical partitions as you may need down the road. Home partition should be 15 to 20 Gb or bigger if you have room. :)
