Mepis Wireless Networking problem..

Hey guys,

My problem in short is that I have Mepis Linux version 3.4-3 on my Fujitsu Siemens laptop with a Intel ProWireless card....

I have a wireless unsecured network at home and I connect to it just fine... So this tells me that Mepis recognizes my card and that everything is OK...

However in my Uni there is a wireless WPA secured network that I want to connect to... I set up everything on OS center and control center properly... and then I open KWiFi Manager and scan for networks and indeed it finds it... then I select its name and click ok ... then status says:

Searching for GUCWLAN
ip: 00:00:00:00:00:00

And it doesn't although I have entered the key and everything...

There is no problem on the network... and somebody suggested that the key in Hexadecimal ... and when I enter the key in the configure there is no Hexadecimal option...

This is all the info that I have about the problem...

So anybody plz help me...

Thank you

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

I find that KWifiManager ignores/resets what is in the Mepis OS Centre - which doesn't do WPA - only WEP.
From a command line:

man iwconfig

for how-to configure the wireless net from command line, then:

ifup wlan0 where wlan0 is the name of your wireless interface.

Is your Uni network running mac filtering? If it is you will never be able to connect.

Cd.
