Mepis Rocks!

I installed SimplyMepis 3.3.1, and I installed it to the hdd, I hated it at first, because it would not let me change graphics driver.

so eventually I came to personalize it how I personally like it, with less bloated bottom bar, I added some repositories.

I tried xorg, but it had some error, so I didn't mind xfree, I installed kernel-sources, and got extra packages from synaptic, such as gnome, themes, etc.

I did the nvidia driver.

and in the current state I got to, I really am impressed! This is possibly the best distro I've ever used, it just took some customizing fun.

Here's a screenshot of my KDE desktop...

I know I posted this topic, but oddly enough I ended up not using mepis anymore :D

I like my new slackware desktop, here's a screenshot in case you're interested for some reason, I just like it more because I got portage installed, and slapt-get is good to keep the system upgraded :-D.

ive just installed mepis have to say its so far the best. i just need to find out what services start at boot time so i can disable the ones i dont need. i would like to find out if i can use gnome desktop insted of kde. thanks for any help i can get. other distros ive tried are FC3,QILINUX,UBUNTU,FORSIGHT,and some live CD`S so far MEPIS works the best.

For disabling services, refer to this Mepis Wiki Page:

Disabling Services

I use KDE so I can't help ya with the Gnome. I installed it once when Warren came out with the 3 extra CDs for Mepis 3.3 but it screwed my KDE up so had to reinstall Mepis. I am pretty sure someone will be along that can tell you how to do it. :)

Welcome to Mepis!

for gnome 2.8, maybe 2.10 if they changed it since I used it, go into synaptic, and go into one of the tabs, I think "options", and go to repositories, and check all the boxes, then hit refresh, and you can now search and install gnome.

sorry for the unclear explanation, but I havent used mepis in awhile :D

fair_is_fair 06-09-2005 09:52 PM

Mepis is indeed the best.

blah, maybe according to you, I don't know if you look for an easy distribution, but I think slack is the best, it just takes some easy configuring.
